ACA Galleries is pleased to announce its first exhibition of paintings by
Doug Safranek. A full color catalogue of the exhibition is available with a statement on technique by the artist and an essay by noted author Jane Schwartz.
Safranek’s intricately detailed paintings depict the diverse neighborhoods, inhabitants and cultures of New York City. Often miniature in scale they celebrate the immensity and variety of the urban landscape.
Born in 1956, he attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison where he studied painting with professors John Wilde and James Watrous. When he graduated in 1984 with a Masters of Fine Arts Professor Watrous presented Safranek with his collection of powdered pigments some of which had once belonged to the renowned tempera painters John Steuart Curry and Thomas Hart Benton.
