ACA Galleries is delighted to announce its first solo exhibition of watercolors by Patricia Tobacco Forrester.

She graduated from Smith College (1962) and then attended Yale University School of Art where she received both her BFA (1963) and MFA (1965). Contrary to the prevailing trends of the 1970s she began painting outside, in watercolors so large they demanded to be taken as seriously as works on canvas. Her chosen medium moves and shifts on paper the way nature does - in currents of water, light and air. Her colorful plein-air watercolors reflect the dynamism and power of the ever-changing natural world.

She has been awarded numerous fellowships and residencies which enabled her to paint both locally and abroad in the verdant landscapes of Ciudad Colon, Costa Rica and Rochefort-en-terre, France.

Awards: Artist Fellowship, D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities, 2004 and 2003; Residency, Alfred & Trafford Klots Program in Rochefort-en-terre, France, 2004 and 2003; Julia and David White Colony Residency, Costa Rica, 1999-2005; Djerassi Foundation Residency, 1999; Elected Member, The National Academy of Design, New York, 1992; Hand Hollow Foundation Residency, 1981; The MacDowell Colony Residency, 1980; Yaddo Foundation Residency, 1979; Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship in Printmaking, 1967.

Selected Museum Collections: Art Institute of Chicago, IL; British Museum, London; Brooklyn Museum, NY; Corcoran Gallery, Washington, DC; Indianapolis Museum of Art, IN; Library of Congress, Washington, DC; Memorial Art Gallery, University of Rochester, NY; National Museum of American Art, Washington, DC; National Museum for Women in the Arts, Washington, DC; Oakland Museum, CA; San Antonio Museum of Art, TX; The White House, Executive Office Building, Washington, DC; University Art Museum, Berkeley, CA; University of Texas, Dallas, TX; Yale University, New Haven, CT.
