ACA Galleries is pleased to announce its first exhibition of paintings, drawings, sculptures and mixed media constructions by Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson.
Robinson is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the MacArthur “Genius Award” in 2004. The same year she completed a monumental commission for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, OH.
Concurrent with this show is a major traveling retrospective, Symphonic Poem: The Art of Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson, organized by the Columbus Museum of Art in Ohio, and on view at the Brooklyn Museum from February 24 through August 14, 2006. A 204-page book published by Abrams accompanies the retrospective.
She was born 1940 in Columbus, OH where she continues to work and live. She creates drawings, cloth paintings, woodcuts, books and sculptures in diverse media which capture, preserve and celebrate the history of her native city and the places she visits.
She has contributed illustrations for numerous children’s books including Elijah’s Angel (Harcourt Brace and Company, 1992), Sophie (Harcourt Brace and Company, 1994), A School for Pompey Walker (Harcourt Brace and Company, 1995), and To Be A Drum (Albert Whitman and Company, 1998).
Her work can be found in public and private collections including the Columbus Museum of Art, OH; the Richmond Art Museum, IN and the Newark Museum, NJ, among others.
