ACA Galleries is delighted to exhibit Setting the Table: Preparatory Work for The Dinner Party. This show is held in conjunction with the permanent installation of
Judy Chicago's The Dinner Party at the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum.
Six rare Dinner Party test plates will be on view. Also on exhibit will be the entire series of 39 original plate drawings that are the only complete historical record of the iconography of The Dinner Party. This exhibition complements the publication of two new books, The Dinner Party: From Creation to Preservation by
Judy Chicago, (Merrell Publishers) and Becoming
Judy Chicago: A Biography of the Artist, by Gail Levin, (Harmony Books).
An artist, feminist, humanist, educator and author whose career has spanned over four decades, Chicago is an internationally acclaimed artist who has had numerous solo exhibitions in the United States and abroad. She is the author of 11 books and the recipient of many grants and awards including honorary doctorates from Duke University, Lehigh University, Smith College and Russell Sage College.
Her work is in numerous museum collections including Brooklyn Museum, NY; Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, CA; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA; New Orleans Museum of Art, LA; Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe, NM, National Gallery, Washington, DC; National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, CA; British Museum, London, England and Getty Trust, Los Angeles, CA, among others.
