[this show will continue in our gallery through April 2006]
ALP GALLERIES is proud to announce a Group Show featuring Gary Beeber, Bruno Griesel, Caro Jost and Gabriele von Lutzau in continuation of the successful exhibition of the artist’s works at Art Miami in January this year, at the same time celebrating the 1st anniversary of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s “The Gates, Central Park , New York City, 1979 – 2005”.
Through his photographs of monuments, architectural objects and design elements, Gary Beeber’s “traveling camera” documents strange, intriguing and symbolic images from around the world. Beeber selects the subjects of his works for their hidden beauty and aesthetic order, creating nostalgic images of poetic calmness. Gary is a BFA of Miami University and lives in Southampton, NY.
Bruno Griesel was a master student of Prof. Bernhard Heisig and is part of the “New Leipzig School” of artists. His paintings focus on the human body, applying a masterly technique to produce powerful forms and expressive colors. The subjects are often based on allegories, mythology or symbolism providing the ingredients for the drama, sensuality and psychic depth of his work. Bruno lives in Leipzig, Germany.
Caro Jost’s signature works are “Streetprints”: she takes real imprints from streets and squares in the metropolitan centers of the world like Shanghai and New York and applies them on canvas – a new form of documenting the reality of location and time, closing the circle from the function of traditional painting via photography back to the canvas. The resulting images appear abstract and are yet very concrete. Caro lives in Munich, Germany.
Gabriele von Lutzau is a sculptor from Michelstadt, Germany working with wood, iron and bronze. In her “Signs of Life” series she turns thuia trees upside down –“the root is the head of the tree” – creating slender creatures on high stilts seemingly defying gravity in their dance and ready to get on their wings. In contrast, her “Hearts” series made of beech wood and cast iron rests heavily on earth telling stories of love and grief.
