ATM Gallery is proud to announce
Alison Fox's second solo exhibition, New Work New York. This exhibition is filled with paintings. The show proposes an almost utopian context for these paintings through it's allusion to domestic settings and the fleeting moment in which the paintings leave the artist and take on a life of their own.
The politics of display hit a highly personal note with Fox. Some paintings are half framed using found wood or painted scraps. Some are leaning against sculptures and some are hung on cork, a transitory display material that calls to mind a bulletin board. Fox presents her paintings as forever in transit, always waiting for a final resting place in a thrift store, a house, a storage rack or a dumpster, and so strikes a clunky yet elegant balance between an artist's intentions and an artwork's individual presence.
Alison Fox was born in 1977 in New York where she currently lives and works. She received an MFA from Hunter College and a BFA from Skidmore College. Her work has been exhibited at Marc Selywn Fine Art, Sikkema Jenkins & Co. and Mitchell – Innes & Nash. Alison's work is in the collection of the Guggenheim Museum and the Saatchi Gallery. This will be her second solo exhibition in New York.
