Amos Eno Gallery is pleased to present the third solo show of sculptor
Walt Swales titled “Castings: of Men and Beasts”. The artist’s cast bronze and cast aluminum sculptures formally refer to things like deer and human skulls. Conceptually, this body of work deals with issues of play and art-making as subjects. These works look at positive and negative space as well as textural issues seeking tension and resolution within the designs of the works. Notes the artist: “ I manipulated the surfaces f the castings with paint. I am not a colorist or surface designer by any inclination. But I wanted the surface design to be an issue in this series, as an academic exercise and as a means to excite three-dimensional forms executed through a very traditional and historically significant process. ”
