July 18, 2006- August 12, 2006
Reception: July 20, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
530 W 25th St
Amos Eno Gallery proudly presents HYBRIDITY/AMBIVALENCE; a group exhibition curated by Yulia Pinkusevich. The exhibition features a fusion of emerging contemporary artists paired alongside established artists. Including works by
Gerhard Richter,
Richard Artschwager,
Steve DiBenedetto,
Beth Brideau,
Ben Grasso,
Kristine Moran,
Michael Slagle, and
Seldon Yuan.
The exhibition features a variety of seminal works ranging in media from drawing, painting, photography and printmaking. These pieces address issues of globalization and its effects on visual cognition, investigating how over-saturation of visual stimulus influences a hybrid approach to art. Through use of varied new technologies readily available in today’s global society, these artists approach their work through hybrid means of creation while still paying homage to the longstanding traditions in art.
Via new perspectives, the viewer is encouraged to acknowledge their own awareness of urbanization and the consequences it holds for our future. Aerial perspectives transcend the viewer into several identities simultaneously, establishing an amalgamated movement in contemporary art.
The exhibition will be on view from July 18th through August 12th 2006. Opening reception will be held on Thursday July 20th 6:00- 8:00 PM.
