Presman: a wedding of art, philosophy and psychology
January 31, 2006- February 25, 2006

José-Ricardo Presman’s work has been conceptually based for the last three decades. His medium has varied widely and his installations differ visually from one show to another depending on the subject matter. The unifying theme of his work consists of applying a creative perspective that has shifted away from ordinary, everyday experience towards a cognition this is supersensible. The esoteric nature of his topics are expressed in clear and simple forms, but the complexity generated must be considered more fully through the viewer’s past and future experiences.
The present installation is based on this idea: re-create twelve specifically chosen art works from the history of modern art, as they appear in art history book reproductions, from each of 6 different points of view. The overview: there are twelve paths by means of which one may reach a world view; from idealism to realism, from materialism to spiritism, there are a dozen entry points to a philosophy of life and art. Similarly, there are six types of personalities, from active to passive, from introverted to extroverted. A seventh, ideal personality type can detect and define these six.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, José-Ricardo Presman has had numerous one-man shows at the Amos Eno Gallery, and has exhibited in group shows throughout the United States and Canada.
