Reception: March 28, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
600 Washington St
André Schlechtriem Contemporary is pleased to announce the second solo show at the gallery by German artist
Ralf Ziervogel. This event also marks the opening of our new exhibition space in the West Village at 600 Washington Street at the Corner of Morton Street.
In his solo exhibition “RAZIVO”
Ralf Ziervogel will present the conclusion of a project he has been working on for the last 5 years: a series of 100 drawings. These small drawings are summarized under the title “every adidas got its story” and each of them finds its counterpart in a black envelope. Displayed are the drawings on small triangle shaped wood blocks and the drawing itself leans fragile against the wall. In this exhibition Ziervogel presents the ultimate 40 drawings of this series. Ziervogel is known for his excessive, ultra detailed, largescale and miniature figurative drawings, a contemporary version of a Breugel apocalypse, his work however focuses on installation and three- dimensional work as much as on drawing and we are pleased to present his sculpture “UD” as part of the show. This slender, tall tent wrestles with itself; yet the audience most definitely is implicated.
Ziervogel emerged as Meisterschüler from the class of Lothar Baumgarten, at the School of Fine Arts, Berlin. The young artist has been exhibited internationally, most recently in solo shows at The Modern Art Museum Fort Worth, Texas, Kunstverein Heilbronn and Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Germany as well in group-shows like “Made in Germany” Sprengel Museum Hanover, Germany, “Dream and Trauma” works from the Collection of Dakis Joannou at Kunsthalle Vienna, Austria. His work is included in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art, New York. In 2008 the State of Berlin awarded the artist a grant to live and work in New York City.
