Witty, prolific and darkly humorous, Shrigley’s work pinpoints moments in a disjointed stream of
consciousness and reveals an offbeat world. Eccentric moral dilemmas must be faced at every turn.
Every situation is simultaneously bizarre and vaguely familiar. Unusual habits, dreams, facial
features, school playgrounds and bodily functions are all fair game.
David Shrigley has exhibited widely around the world. Recent solo exhibitions have been held at Malmö
Konsthall, Malmö, Sweden (2007), Dundee Contemporary Arts, Dundee, Scotland (2006), Kunsthaus
Zürich, Switzerland (2003), Camden Arts Center, London (2002), and UCLA Hammer Museum in Los
Angeles (2002). Shrigley is participating in this year’s Life on Mars: 55th Carnegie International, Pittsburgh.
Other recent group shows include Learn to Read, Tate Modern, London (2007), Six Feet Under,
Kunstmuseum, Bern, Switzerland (2006), State of Play at the Serpentine Gallery, London, Emotion Eins at
the Kunstverein Frankfurt (both 2004), and Splat, Boom, Pow! The Influence of Cartoons in Contemporary
Art, Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston (2003). Aside from authoring over 30 books, he directed the
video for Blur's “Good Song” and he co-directed a film with Chris Shepherd called Who I Am And What I
Want. In 2007, Tomlab released Worried Noodles, a double-CD including Liars, Grizzly Bear, Mount Eerie,
and Final Fantasy putting Shrigley's 2005 book of the same name to music.
