106 W 29th StA selection of fifty posters from the exhibition The Graphic Imperative will be on view starting on December 4. The Graphic Imperative is a select retrospective of forty years of international sociopolitical posters. They utilize the powers of visual metaphor, and at times, savage irony and humor. The themes of dissent, liberation, racism, sexism, human rights, civil rights, environmental and health concerns, AIDS, war, literacy and tolerance provide a window to an age of great change.
The Graphic Imperative was curated and organized by Elizabeth Resnick and Chaz Maviyane-Davies, both associate professors in Communication Design for the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and Frank Baseman, associate professor in Graphic Design Communication, Philadelphia University. The exhibition will be up for viewing during the ADC Holiday Party on Thursday, December 6.
