Art Gotham is pleased to announce 'FLUORESCENCE', an exhibition of new photographs by artist Vicki DaSilva. This is the artist's first solo show in NYC.

'FLUORESCENCE' is a new series of single frame time exposure photographs created at night documenting an eight-foot fluorescent light bulb with colored gels traveling on a track system across a terraced landscape. The track is approximately 100 feet long and is installed to conform to the topographical landscape of this particular site. The light is moved manually by being pulled along the track. The track is moved across the landscape and the process repeated.

The photos are made with chrome film shot with a medium format camera. There is no digital imaging used in the work. The exposures are approximately one hour in length.

Color is the dominating force in these vibrant works as a direct result from the speed and intensity of the moving lamp. Color saturation is a constant variable due to the manual movement of the lamp.

The eight photographs will be displayed as 40x54 inch chromogenic prints mounted on aluminum.

'FLUORESCENCE' is a continuation of my commitment to the exploration of this particular photographic process,” says DaSilva. "I am interested in making work that combines and is influenced by many different art forms and movements, or, that is postmodern in general yet genuinely my own style."

DaSilva has several images included in the 400 page comprehensive exhibition catalog 'Light Art from Artificial Light', ZKM/Museum for Contemporary Art in Karlsruhe, Germany. The recent exhibition was on view from November 19, 2005-August 6, 2006.

Vicki DaSilva received a 2003 and 2001 Photography Fellowship from the PA Council on the Arts. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. She currently resides in Allentown, PA.
