547 W 27th StART GOTHAM is pleased to present The Square Foot Show, a group exhibition of art by living New York-area artists to be held Thursday, February 23rd until Thursday, March 23rd.
We enter this world with both the boundless freshness of new life and the limitations of the world in which we are born. The fertile soil of our limitations allows us to find ways to create opportunities, alternatives and solutions that we perhaps would not have arrived at if not given such boundaries. Coming from that place of limitations, we naturally and innately counteract with ingenuity, creativity, invention and boldness.
Drawing on this idea, The Square Foot Show sets the stage for each artist to create his or her unique work - boundless creation and ingenuity inspired by existing boundaries. Each artist in this dynamic group exhibition will start from square one. They were given a uniform one by one foot square canvas as a base on which to leave their individual artistic marks. All works on display are fresh and will have been created within the past three months
The final results will be displayed at ART GOTHAM with an opening reception on Thursday, February 23rd 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm and a brunch reception during the weekend of the Armory Show on March 11th from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. Collectors, press and other art enthusiasts are invited to the receptions to celebrate the art community of New York City.
Information for artists This event is designed to support living New York-area artists who use media that can work on the official 12x12 inch/1.5 inches thick canvas. Even photographers or sculptors are invited as long as their work can be displayed on this canvas and be easily hung with two nails. The goal is to publicize New York artists and show newly created work by local artists.
