Leave Nature to Nature
Art Gate, the latest contemporary art venue to open in Chelsea will present its first group exhibition of American artists. The exhibition
comprises of 2-D work created from a wide range of media: from oil on linen, digital prints to works on steel canvases. Cara Enteles,
Miya Ando Stanoff,
Mia Brownell,
Holly Sears and
Martin Kruck have works in this show.
The exhibition brings together the works of five artists that collectively form a strong concept – to just let nature be itself. Regina Joh and Sylvia Kim, curators, imagine a space that sends out a signal to this grand concrete jungle - New York city and all its inhabitants, with the simple, yet in a renewed sense, the message ]‘we shouldn’t interfere with nature; it can take care of itself’.
Cara’s work explores predatory/prey relationships within nature, while analyzing man’s destructive
actions on the natural world, whereas, Holly envisions physical and spiritual kinship between the inhabitants
of the world. Miya uses metal finishing techniques on steel panels to create abstract, distinctly meditative
environments. Mia paints with traditional techniques to make manifest her fascination with America’s
attitude toward food as commodity. Digitally composed images by Martin captures his notions and
personal experiences with landscapes.
