ArtGate Gallery is pleased to present Reflection in the Memory group show, curated
by Seung Chul Lee and Sylvia Kim. The Exhibit will be on view from August 5th to 23rd and is comprised
of works from four emerging artists based in Korea and New York that focus on Realism.
Yong Sang Yoo is Korean artist based in Seoul. As part of his water series, the emptying or swirling of
a wineglass portrays a person’s unconscious inner ambition and the difficulty in the expression of
this inner world. Jung Hyuk Choi is also Korean artist based in Seoul.
Mr. Choi successfully brought classic manual techniques and the age-old theme of nature
to contemporary times. He experiences nature, capture its images in a camera, and re-processes
it to the image of painting in his own style. Cesar Santander is American artist Based in New York.
His paintings center on still-life and utilize the airbrush. His latest works focus on antique tin boxes,
which has led to the painting of tin toys as well. He tries to impose his own vision through subtle
adjustment of colors, edges and details so that the finished painting is the strongest representation
of the original idea. Ki Seok Kim is Korean artist based in New York. Consciousness is essential
in order to recall something and it is not limited to relationships among people. The images are realistic,
but the composition is unrealistic in that the shapes or colors are inevitably opposed to each other.
The personal aspect of the human condition results in the absence of a brush stroke,
and the images connected to the self finally aim as a realization of the human condition.
