Artists Choice
January 22, 2008- February 5, 2008
Reception: January 22, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
135 W 29th St
The perspective of artists on other artists is often very personal. Their own
creative explorations and careers inform their views. Are they more or less
influenced by museum curators, gallery trends, and art critics than others?
Do they gravitate toward a similar content and style to their own work, or do
they admire those artists that pursue different directions? One often hears
them declare strong opinions. This exhibition will explore artists’ choices.
This exhibition started as a discussion among the approximately 30 artists
members of New York’s
Atlantic Gallery. The many CAA artists that
gathered at the recent conference in New York sparked the idea to have
each individual artist member of
Atlantic Gallery select an artist from
interested CAA artists to participate in a group exhibition.
Atlantic Gallery
has a tradition of annual invitational exhibitions. Text describing the Atlantic
Gallery members’ choices will accompany the exhibit. There will be gallery
events during the exhibition to discuss the issues that attract artists to select
certain work.
Atlantic Gallery as a artist-run organization believes we should
support the artists that visit New York City. The College Art Association has
held their annual conference in NY regularly bringing thousands of visiting
artists.
The selected nine exhibiting artists represent various stylistic and aesthetic
directions and hail from Wisconsin to Georgia, Arizona to Massachusetts.
Please join us on Tuesday January 22nd from 6 to 8 PM to celebrate this rich
and varied exhibition of artists from across America
