Catastrophe
June 17, 2008- July 17, 2008
Reception: June 17, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
135 W 29th St
In this country the new millennium began dubiously with a questionable election, and since that first hanging chad, the last 8 years have included enough disasters around the world to make even Nostradamus nervous.
Artists are often the first to anticipate shattering events and phenomena. Many have responded to the latest wave of global crises with images intended to evoke fear, despair, outrage, but ultimately: compassion, courage, and resolve for positive change.
Atlantic Gallery & selected artists confront CATASTROPHE in painting, sculpture, drawing, photography and fiber art. The CATASTROPHE exhibition of over 50 works addresses the challenges that are defining the early 21st Century, and hopes to inform and inspire positive action as we face floods, famine and fraudulent governance…to name a few highlights.
Join us for the opening reception on Tuesday, June 17th, 6pm-8pm to see how artists illuminate events– political, environmental, economic, social, cultural or personal– they regard as Catastrophic!
