Atlantic Gallery is pleased to announce the premier showing of Close Encounters-Works On Paper by
Estelle Nussbaum. The show is comprised of upcoming work that navigates and explores “the terrain of the ordinary.” In the process of exploring the seemingly mundane, the artist mines provocative territory.
Nussbaum’s work has been described as “democratic” in its attention to detail. Any existing hierarchical structure may be turned on its head with the least important becoming the most important (and vice versa). Each piece is executed on a daily basis in a single sitting; hence the immediacy and raw power is apparent. Drawing and painting are interchangeable as the artist moves across the picture plane. Familiar/iconic images become stepping-stones on this visual voyage.
Characterized by its bold accessibility, the staying power of these pieces ultimately resonates.
Close Encounters-Works On Paper marks
Estelle Nussbaum’s 2nd NYC exhibition. A graduate of Yale University School of Art (MFA Painting) she had her first solo exhibition on that campus at the Slifka Center in 2005.
