Small Miracles 2007

December 4, 2007- January 5, 2008

Reception: December 4, 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Atlantic Gallery

135 W 29th St
New York is a city of extremes, so holidays can be a mixed blessing as the things that make the city miraculous and exciting go into overdrive. Stores are overstocked and people pour into town ready to shop… aggressively. How can one find a thoughtful gift under such circumstances? It’ll take a Small Miracle.

New York is also a city of the extremes of wealth and poverty. From street to street, the city is home to those for whom there is no huge holiday banquet. Approximately 1.3 million New Yorkers rely on emergency food programs (EFPs). This is a 24% increase from 2004, so how can we celebrate extravagantly knowing that one in four New Yorkers is hungry? We need a Small Miracle.

Vital federal funding has been dramatically decreased creating a national shortage in soup kitchens and pantries around the country, including a loss of approximately 12 million pounds of food to New York City’s Emergency Food Programs. This impacts individuals and families accessing emergency food. These New Yorkers including an increased percentage of the city’s middle class— more than one-fifth are working, and almost one out of every four of them have been to college.

This year Atlantic Gallery is partnering with The Yorkville Common Pantry in an effort to create the Small Miracle of plenty for our fellow New Yorkers. Our new Chelsea space will be filled with Small Miracles- paintings, prints, photographs and sculpture by over 100 artists. Each Small Miracle is beautiful, well priced, measures no more than 12 inches in any direction, is ready to go and can be taken with you upon purchase. More importantly, this year artists will be donating 10% of the profits from sales to The Yorkville Common Pantry in an effort to expand the table to include all New Yorkers so that they may enjoy the holiday without hunger.

Come enjoy the possibilities of Small Miracles 2007, Tuesday, December 4th from 5:30 to 8pm to select a thoughtful, unique holiday gift for some one you care about, and at the same time donate to The Yorkville Common Pantry whose programs help to those who are without the care they so need.
