Brian Keith Stephens 2008
May 5, 2008- May 31, 2008

Brian Keith Stephens presents his large scale and distinctive American canvases for our Spring show. A subtle incorporation of pastoral imagery into Stephensı paintings allows the viewer a glimpse of his townıs most familiar and beloved residents: cows, goats, chickens and swans. The expressions and positions of these animal subjects conjure sentiments of childhood, absence and longing. Occasionally, young figures appear alongside the animals in Stephensı work. Using his children as models, he successfully twists the viewerıs memory into a deeper childhood consciousness. The intense greens and blues of his work are offset with small staccato slashes of reds and oranges, displayed on canvas, board and antique planks from his Connecticut countryside.
