BUIA Gallery is pleased to present Good Times Make You Think That You¹re the
Lucky One, artist
Jan Christensen¹s first solo exhibition with the gallery.
Good Times Make You Think That You¹re the Lucky One, an installation
revolving around a carefully arranged, extensive DVD soundtrack compilation
of 20 second bytes of an array of songs from various artists and musical
genres, mixed by the artist spreads throughout the gallery via an array of
speakers each varyingly transmitting different portions of the soundtrack.
A small central star feed like video loop of slowed down, blurred lights,
abstracted from an evening highway accompanies the sound component,
establishing a feeling of a hypnotic, perhaps melancholic journey. Good
Times Make You Think That You¹re the Lucky One considers the notion of
place- physically, mentally, and emotionally as constructed by music and a
small visual.
Jan Christensen is a graduate of The National College of Art and Design in
Oslo and a new gallery artist. A recipient of a Pollock-Krasner and Ingrid
Lindbäck Laangard Foundation grants, Christensen has had residencies at the
Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin and FRAC des Pays de la Loire in
Nantes. Recent exhibitions include a project room exhibition at Yvon Lambert
in New York, a solo exhibition in conjunction with Art Basel at the
Kunsthaus Baselland, and a solo exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum in Ghent.
This year
Jan Christensen participated in BREEZER at the gallery as well as
in Please Love Me: Architectural Style and the Love Letter at the Walker¹s
Point Center for the Arts in Milwaukee- both met with great reception. We
are excited to announce the opening of Christensen¹s greatly anticipated
solo exhibition.
