541 W 23rd StBUIA Gallery is pleased to present Invisible Jet, a group show featuring new work by select gallery artists.
Kadar Brock, in a conflation of Minimalism and Abstract Expressionism in oil, acrylic, and spraypaint on canvas, conveys personal psychological and spiritual realms associated with esoteric philosophy.
Jan Christensen’s conceptually based piece Boredom and Disbelief, 2006 derives from an art magazine spread based on notes on his art making process. As always, Christensen’s work considers the definition and limits of art making.
Matt Jones’ exuberant canvases begin with everyday imagery and then delve into a conceptual abstraction of color and material. While making primarily two dimensional work, his consideration of the picture plane heavily extends to its objecthood.
Daniel Joseph filters feelings, emotions, iconography, and objects into an installation-based statement on youth culture. His use of collage on wood implementing a vibrant yet heavily emotive palette welcomes the viewer while the undercurrent of honed intuition sharpens the tone.
Shay Kun’s satirical realist oil and acrylic paintings tackle and highlight the discord of a dysfunctional society. A bizarre palette and mix of high and low painting techniques underlie the hilarity of the situation.
