Prud'homme's current work follows a trip to Spain where the elegant 15th and 16th Century portraits in the Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museums suggested this different challenge. A second influence is the exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of panel paintings from 2nd century Roman Egypt, which capture the viewer with simply painted open-eyed expressions.
A human face is the map of a life. Prud'homme has evoked the joy or endurance or intelligence in her subjects' lives by the animated tilt of a head or smile of pleasure.
Prud'homme studied at The Art Students League and has worked as an architectural draftsman in Philadelphia, as an exhibition designer at the American Museum of Natural History in NYC, and as an art teacher at the West Side Montessori School. She has shown at the Academy of the Arts, MD, the Attleboro Museum, the Berkshire Museum, the Geoffrey Young Gallery and the Norman Rockwell Museum, MA, the Penobscot Marine Museum, ME, at the New Arts Gallery, Washington Art Association and at Yale's Sterling Library, CT.
Her work is in many private collections.
