After a long hiatus from public appearance and exhibition of his work, mostly spent in a remote cornfield in Pennsylvania, with no phone, television, internet or few other amenities, the talented
Sean Wyeth will come back to New York. Despite controversy with the Wyeth family, Mr. Wyeth, who has been focused on painting, 12 hours a day, and raising 5 year old son with his wife of 19 years, will again share his unique paintings, watercolors and drawings that reveal his natural talent, endorsed by Anne D’Harnoncourt, Director of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Sean Wyeth has like his grandfather N.C. Wyeth, led a varied career in art. He was the youngest animator at Walt Disney Studios at age 18, working on films such as “Robin Hood”. In 1975 Batam Books published his first book cover, leading to sponsorship and membership in the New York Society of Illustrators. In 1976, at age 23 he had his first solo museum exhibition at the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, Mass.
Mr. Wyeth studied art with Nelson Shanks, a noted artist and portrait painter, and studied color with Henry Hensche, a student and disciple of Claude Monet.
“
Sean Wyeth’s works embody expressionism but are grounded in the realist tradition. He combines unusual subject matter and an old master color palette to convey things as they are today. His skill as an illustrator allows the capture of an unposed moment in time where, without idealization or stylization, he is able to personify his subject matter to create an image of emotion,” says Bon à Tirer’s director, Steven Demas. “His paintings are a haunting vision, a momentary glimpse into his perceptual experience, but remain timeless images of beauty.”
