526 W 26th StBravinLee programs is very pleased to present “Mistake” a new body of work in paper by Spanish artist Amparo Sard. Amparo Sard has exhibited extensively in Europe; this is her first one person exhibition in the United States.
Sard uses a very unique form of physical pointillism to build an intricate pixilated image/narrative. By perforating the sheet of paper with thousands of pinholes using techniques borrowed and modified from fresco, the result is a wonderful and subtle white on white images literally from within, through and of the sheet of paper.
With the on-going Fly Woman series, Amparo Sard started a reflection on the doubt and anguish produced by indecision. In this installment Sard talks to the implication of the error or “Mistake.” This work expresses the wrong decision, the confusion between cause and consequence, after the mistake, when the die is cast and the protagonist may not undo it.
If in last series the water was the most important element –referring to the water level that was going up while the time was passing without decision- in this new work the line is not water, but is a wooden board. It represents the mistake itself, making a difference between two worlds, or two options, the empty space and the filled space. The white dress, the air and the fly are still presented in this installment to give the meaning of the subliminal language that continues through the Fly Woman series.
