The
Brenda Taylor Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new works by
Kathy Feighery and
Jeanne Gentry Keck. Both artists have held previous shows at the
Brenda Taylor Gallery, with the new work emphasizing individual reflections of the artists’ continued growth and investigation of form and color.
Kathy Feighery’s work embraces both the realistic and ethereal in her medium of oil on panel. Feighery’s investigation of abstract reality is assessed in works such as her “Dress Series,” which reflects a dynamic and visceral coloristic approach to her subject matter. Straddling the line between abstract and representational, the work engages the viewer on a more tactile level through its multi layered surfaces. Feighery studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York, and received her BFA in painting from the Maine College of Art in 1994. She has most recently held numerous exhibitions in New York, California, and Maine.
Keck investigates mixed media in the form of found materials, such as straw, paper towel and tape, accompanied by a wide ranging and organic use of color. However, the effect is one of textural relief melded with structural and linear elements to produce separate yet unified effects. Exhibited works such as “Alone/Together” and “Map of Secret Fields” attempt to incite a questioning of the metaphysical in the realistic. Keck studied at the College of William and Mary, and the Dayton Art Institute, and has since held residencies in Italy, Vermont and Massachusetts. Keck’s work has been exhibited in numerous galleries in New York, Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina and Washington D.C., along with permanent collections in and around the United States.
