The
Brenda Taylor Gallery is pleased to open an exhibition of emerging artists. Most of the artists graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in 2004. Lindsay, Jesse and Rhett’s works are collaboration with Ryan Tecartin and have been collected by Saatchi Gallery in London. Bebe, Greenberg and Larue are refugee artists from hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and recently moved to Philadelphia. “Reality/Alteration” will bring each artist’s individual reflection of the world.
Greenberg’s “MegaBinx” series are an environmental 3D work, using tactile synthetic materials, plastics, foams and rubbers. MegaBinx invites the audience to touch the work and experience the world as seen by the artist.
Kim’s sculpture, “Shaman’s Garment” symbolically represents the transformation of a body from secular world to transcendental world.
Bebe’s series of self-portraits in water reveal herself as an individual, being a solo entity in the world, using bold colors and figures.
Baldwin and Gates’ paintings investigate the connection between geometry and everyday city life.
Hausman’s print works are made by inking sheets of surplus metal jewelry and running them through an etching press. The force of the press creates an embossment in the damp paper, creating transitional forms; butterflies become a decorated half circle and then disappear.
