Born in Hebei Province, China in 1956,
Liu Fenghua is one of China’s premier artists rising to fame with his famous series of work titled, “Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses”.
Liu Fenghua began his career as a stage designer for the prestigious Central Opera Theatre, designing for productions such as “Hot Land” and “The Marriage of Figaro”.
Fenghua’s Terra-cotta soldiers have gained worldwide exposure exhibiting on an international level from Great Britain, to Paris and Singapore. His play on tradition pays homage to such pop artists as Keith Harring and Andy Warhol. The political and pop figures painted on replicas of ancient Chinese Terra-cotta Warriors sends a satirical message of the clash between globalization and tradition. This series of work remains one of his most popular series having been featured in collections from The Museum of Great Britain, as well as the Hang Zhou Art Museum.
China Previews is proud to bring his series of work to the New York art community through his new show entitled, “New Traditions: A Quest For Common Ground.” Please join us for the exciting opening reception on April 3rd, 6 – 8 pm.
