In the North Gallery, James Benjamin Franklin will present several new flashe and resin paintings. Beneath their glossy surfaces, Franklin’s spare, nondescript spaces allow the psyche of his anatomically awkward figures to take center stage. More than detached portrayals of banal situations, his works are intimate looks at psychological self-explorations of character. Through unclear circumstances and pictorial riddles, the viewer is invited to discern his own interpretation of the idiosyncrasy of human behavior.

This is Franklin’s second solo exhibition at Clementine. His work has been recently seen in Phantasmania at the Kemper Museum in Missouri, as well as in the New York Times Magazine.
