Liu Yujun: Recent Paintings, an exhibition of works on canvas, by the contemporary Chinese artist
Liu Yujun. This exhibition will open on May 15th and run through June 7th. There will be an opening reception with the artist in attendance on Thursday, May 15th from 6 – 8pm.
Liu Yujun's work shows the mystery of the modern Chinese beauty. The blue soft liquid symbolizes the women's spirit and sensuousness, fluid and natural. The strokes are very delicate, emphasizing the "ying" of femininity.
Says artist Zhu Xiaomei:
In the Unknown Liquid series
Liu Yujun expresses his personal call for all to treasure humanity and protect women. In a style that is between illusion and reality, Unknown Liquid hints at what is dark in our societal treatment of the weaker female specie. Presented in a telescopic view, the women are depicted with distancing glances, reflecting the insecurity and distrust that is present in today's society. Using very simple colors,
Liu Yujun has richly captured what is the modern China girl today - proud and captivating on the outside yet unsettled and confused on the inside. They appear expressionless but the spirit in their eyes is so piercing as though they have something to say. They appear to have "seen it all" yet they cannot free themselves from the ties of the world. Helpless, hurt, and conflicted between the ideal of love and reality, is she mourning what is lost or fearful of what is to come? The sudden appearance of the mysterious blue liquid in the foreground intensifies the feeling of insecurity.
