Isensee 2006
January 13, 2006- February 11, 2006

Danese is pleased to announce its first exhibition of paintings and drawings by Warren Isensee.
Isensee’s new work revels in vivid, exuberant, unrestrained color within the context of classic, geometric abstraction. The artist avoids the anonymous, impersonal appearance often associated with hard-edge painting through the unexpected and playful juxtaposition of vibrant color, color more related to Pop Art than to formalist aesthetics, and by working with brushes freehand and without the use of tape. To better understand Isensee’s current work is to see it as a transformation from the artist’s ironic view of mid-20th century America as a benign, optimistic society and his nostalgia for the perfect world of “Ozzie and Harriet” – outlandish automobile design, avocado and almond colored kitchens, the quirky, suburban appropriation of Bauhaus architecture.
Born in Asheville, North Carolina in 1956, Isensee studied architecture at the University of Oklahoma and subsequently majored in painting and graphic design. He works in New York City where he lives with his wife and children. He received the Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant in 1999 and has exhibited extensively in the United States.
