Danese is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by
Susie Rosmarin. The opening reception will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, and the exhibition will continue through April 22.
Susie Rosmarin’s paintings transform everyday visual experience into complex, optically charged matrices of color and light. Her delight in commonplace geometrically patterned imagery – gingham textiles, TV test patterns, a thrift shop afghan, a childhood memory of the front grille of a 1960’s Cadillac, even the most minute grid of all, the warp and weft of the canvas itself – provides inspiration for these sparkling, precisely organized and meticulously crafted works. Although clearly associated with Op Art, what might initially appear as minimal, non-objective work is instead grounded in the artist’s acute perception and profound response to an array of human content – the artifacts and images of an expressive, energetic world.
Susie Rosmarin was born in Brownsville, Texas. She received her BA from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas in 1973 and an MFA from the Pratt Institute in 1981. She has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and her work is in several public collections, including the New Musuem of Contemporary Art, New York and the Museum of Fine Art, Houston. Rosmarin currently lives and works in Brooklyn.
