We are very excited to announce
Sam Easterson’s second solo exhibition at the gallery. This time, the subject of Sam’s videos and still images are birds. The participants in the work include turkeys, chicks, ducks, pheasants, a falcon and a partridge, all outfitted with video cameras.
For the last 8 years Sam has been designing custom made video cameras to capture video footage taken from the perspective of animals and plants from around the world. To date, he has outfitted over 70 animals with helmet-mounted video cameras. The work he has been doing with animals and plants is the foundation of the Animal Vegetable Video project. Sam anticipates that the Animal Vegetable Video project will last for the rest of his professional life. During that time, he hopes to build the world’s largest and most comprehensive “library” of video footage that has been captured from the point of view of animals and plants.
In addition to Bird-Cams Sam will be included in the International Center of Photography’s second triennial exhibition, Ecotopia from September 14 until January 7. Earlier this year Sam had a solo exhibition at The University of Arizona and has participated in many group exhibitions. He was awarded a 2006 City of Los Angeles Visual Arts Fellowship and a 2005 Yellow Fox Foundation Grant.
