120 seconds

Reception: September 7, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
529 W 20th St
Denise Bibro Fine Art, 529 West 20th Street, 4th Floor, Chelsea New York is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of abstract Polaroids by New York-based artist
Michael Miga.
For the last few years Miga has developed a collection of a non-objective Polaroid photos that he has made without the use of a camera, a developing mechanism, or light itself. Materials that have been used include rubber brayers, wax, salt, fire, household condiments, and repurposed kitchen appliances.
Miga’s approach to photography is similar to his encaustic paintings; his priority is to play with and manipulate the most elemental processes and components of the given medium to extract a unique image that has, more often than not, made itself just as much, if not more than, the artist himself.
The title, 120 seconds, refers to the two minute developing time the Polaroid must go through before the image is revealed as well as to the number of photos in the show. The 120 photos are casually grouped into 30 sets of four to give reference and structure to the collection and show some of the artist’s progressions through his experimentation over the years.
Michael Miga attended Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina and the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York and has been living and working in New York City since1999. He co-curated “Head Over Hand: Pushing the Limits of Paint” at
Denise Bibro Fine Art and has shown at Christa Faut Fine Art in North Carolina, Rome Art and Janet Kurnatowski in Brooklyn.
