"I've been making these posters for over twenty-five years. Some are lyrics to songs and dialogue from movies. Mostly they commemorate things that friends and family have said. I don't fully understand the process of choosing what makes it on a poster. They tend to be rather hermetic personal statements that for some cathartic reason I feel compelled to make public. They are not really confessional and unburdening experiences. It's more about the process of ephemeral sharing.
"I don't print the posters myself. They are printed by Tribune Showprint, which opened in 1878, and is the oldest, continuously operating poster print shop in the country. Tribune uses wooden type, set one letter at a time on Babcock flatbed presses, which are identical to those used by weekly newspapers in the 1800's. The posters are printed on cheap, lightweight cardboard that have beautiful visual appeal."
