Jenifer Kobylarz: Recent Paintings
November 10, 2006- December 9, 2006
Reception: November 10, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
210 11th Ave
Jenifer Kobylarz will show fifteen new paintings: all are oil on linen and intimate in scale.
In Kobylarz’s paintings, geometric abstraction is given a psychological twist through the manipulation of color, space, and form. Ebullient, elusive and idiosyncratic states of mind seem to drive these works, barely constrained by their vocabulary of geometry gone slightly awry and highlighted by an unusually quixotic palette.
These vivid, emblematic paintings are composed and painted with a scrupulous attention to surface and color, which gives these works an overall integrity of vision that is both mysterious and seductive. Swooping layers of sophisticated color pile up and collide in ever accumulating layers of op-like complexity.
Diversity is explored through repeated curving and arching forms that evoke architectural space as well as the modernist abstractions of Max Bill, Myron Stout, and Leon Polk Smith.
This is
Jenifer Kobylarz’s sixth exhibition with the
Edward Thorp Gallery.
