Figuratively Speaking plays on contemporary forms of figurative art with seven artists from all over the world. Within the spectra of our many different cultures and backgrounds this group exhibition represents highly varied aspects of the representational in drawings and paintings... This reaches from a new take on the more classic forms of nudes by
Laura Sue Phillips and
Terry Rodgers (USA) to playful "cartoonlike" portraits by
Liao Yu-An (Taiwan), and
Joyce Pensato (USA). Devoted to her felt-tip marker medium, ArleneTextaQueen (Autralia), depicts herself and friends with lots of humour in varied public and private situations.
Victoria Civera's (Spain) paintings reflect the artist's intimate surroundings and depicts her life as a woman, artist, and mother.
Shiva Ahmadi's (Iran, USA) disquieting poetic images recall her cultural heritage by mixing conventional water color technique with Persian spices and teas used as paper dyes.
