Synthetic Times-Media Art China 2008 preview programming
April 15, 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
540 W 21st St
From 8 - 10PM on Tuesday, April 15, following a day-long symposium at Parsons, Eyebeam will feature a reception and performances by Eyebeam artists
Jeff Crouse,
Stephanie Rothenberg,
Taeyoon Choi, and
Friedrich Kirschner in conjunction with NYC's Synthetic Times-Media Art China 2008 preview programming.
The performances will include senior fellow
Jeff Crouse and alum
Stephanie Rothenberg's Invisible Threads - a designer jeans sweatshop that operates across the virtual and real worlds by employing Second Life labor to produce real-world jeans. Simulating a real life manufacturing facility, the project provides an insider's view into current modes of global, telematic production. Eyebeam visitors will be able to place live orders for their own Double Happiness designer jeans during the April 15 evening event.
Taeyoon Choi, recipient of Eyebeam's 2008 Commission for Resident Artists*, and the inventor of Camerautomata "Charlie", will unveil his magical image-defecating duck. The Eyebeam event offers a unique viewing and demonstration of the project before it is unleashed in Central Park and other public spaces in New York City.
Eyebeam Production Fellow
Friedrich Kirschner will present The Marionette Couple, an experimental piece in which two digital puppets are controlled by actual strings.
