540 W 21st StUpgrade! New York, the monthly artists gathering, presents an extraordinarily efficient art experience from Eyebeam Resident Jamie O’Shea. An entire performance, narrated by Corey Sullivan, will take place within 1/5 of a second. O’Shea’s automated memory process will create an indelible, and effortless, impression of this instant.This event is open to the public free of charge and will take place at Eyebeam, 540 W. 21st Street between 10th & 11th Aves.
"Welcome to what will be the fastest art you have ever experienced. Shortly, a bank of flashbulbs will illuminate the object in front you. Protective eyewear has been provided for viewers who wish to abstain; however, the process will be rendered ineffective by the eyewear. The danger is mild, comparable to being photographed in a studio. If you will direct your attention to the mirrored circles at the far end of this room, we will begin in (countdown)…
"Now if you blink rapidly and look around the room, you will see the experience persisting on your retina, on route to your permanent memory. Upgrade! is a monthly meeting for professionals in the field, providing an open forum for the artists, designers, critics, curators and educators that form New York's digital arts community. New media artist, Yael Kanarek, initiated The Upgrade! in April 1999, and it has spread to a network of artist lead gatherings in more than 15 countries worldwide. The monthly gatherings include artist presentations, lectures and group discussion.
