COUNTRY AND CITY SHOWS BY MARI LYONS
MARI LYONS's "In the Studio/Woodstock" celebrates the things and the
dramatic relationships among things and the colors in her country studio. A
carousel horse, an African rooster, mirrors and mirror images, found objects
of all kinds, a model seated on a Victorian "fainting couch," finished and
not-yet-finished paintings, the paints and brushes and easels with which the
painter works, paint tables, gueridons, fresh tulips and hydrangas,
landscape that comes in at windows, multi-colored cloths--all are part of a
quiet yet jostling world: sometimes simple, sometimes richly complex, a
place to work, a place re-imagined with great affection.
At the same time, she will exhibit cityscapes of New York City's Upper
West Side (with John Dubrow) at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ, a
show curated by Deborah Rosenthal.
