Line of Vision: Recent Watercolors
February 9, 2006- March 11, 2006

The Fischbach Gallery is pleased to present Line of Vision, an exhibition of recent watercolors by Nancy Hagin, opening February 9 and continuing through March 11, 2006.
The freezing winters of rural Columbia County, New York, inspired Nancy Hagin. Previously Hagin spent the summer months painting in watercolor in her barn turned into a studio near the town of Hudson. However, for the first time, Hagin spent the winter and painting only in watercolor.
This was the first time I could really see the changing of the seasons. It was a very cold winter and heating up the barn was quite a challenge. The water was shut off and I had to haul buckets to the barn. At the send of each session, I would toss the colored paint water from the second floor onto snow covered ground. It fell into beautiful spatter patterns.
In Line of Vision, Hagin beautifully juxtaposes the crispness of the winter light with the vibrant colors of the "found objects" displayed in her still lifes. Hagin work has been increasingly about finding found situations to paint, and Hagins storage shelves for still life objects have become a ready source of inspiration. I love the way they have looked since I'd reorganized them, a while back, by color or size. Now, when I'm in doubt, I go to the shelves. I try not to rearrange things, but to accept the existing configurations. I'm on the lookout for how items pile up naturally in interesting ways.
