Fredericks & Freiser is proud to announce an exhibition of new work by Jeff Elrod. The exhibition will include 8 new paintings on canvas. This will be Elrod’s first solo show at Fredericks & Freiser and his first in New York since 2003.

Jeff Elrod is known for his striking abstract paintings derived from "frictionless drawings" (drawings made on a computer with a gliding mouse.) His work evokes both the continuous scrawls of the artistís idiosyncratic hand as well as a more studied notational lexicon of sharp lines and linear figures. His primarily drawing-based paintings incorporate both the hybrid space and fluctuating point of view of post-modernism with the ambience of old-fashioned formalism (abstract expressionism, automatic writing, hard edge geometry, etc.). In the past, Elrod has been known for painting into the monochrome. For this exhibition he introduces new elements such as grids, modulated color, and raw canvas.

Art Reviews of Jeff Elrod: New Paintings 2006

New York Times
April 7, 2006
Roberta Smith"...But, for all their evident nonchalance, Mr. Elrod's paintings are also fairly labor-intensive. The kindergartenish, graffiti-like doodles and angular lines that meander about most of his paintings are made on a computer, but they are enlarged and transferred to canvas through a painstaking stenciling method involving the application of tapes of different widths...."
