The G.R. N’Namdi Gallery is pleased to announce the Opening Reception for
Vicente Pimentel’s retrospective exhibition entitled “Dialectical” on December 8th, 2007. This exhibition runs thru January 26th, 2008.
Vicente Pimentel (1947-) studied at the National School of Fine Arts, broadening his
knowledge in Marseille, and Paris, France. He has earned top awards in contests
and biennials held in the Dominican Republic, in addition to the prize “Ville de
Vírtry”, obtained in 1982 in France. He has had solo exhibitions in Paris, Stockholm
and Santo Domingo and group shows in Madrid, Paris, Stockholm, Canary
Islands, London, Havana, Rijeka (Yugoslavia), Nice, Copenhagen.
Pimentel’s paintings are predominantly abstract forms floating in space, with
figurative illusions, in the presence of thoughtlessness and vitality. He visualizes a
future filled with question marks, overwhelmed by technology and the decay of
the physical and the spiritual.
Pimentel is a keen artist, conceptual and responsible. He works with modern
myths, which provides an overview of dialectical thinking and the most valued
characteristic of man, from the standpoint of live realism, coherent and
conceptual, full of strong, large and juicy brushstrokes. Integrated to a universe of
art forms, sounds and asymmetric structures, ensuring harmonious construction of
the bodies, figures and objects filled with tension and motivations, to a rigorous
concept that defines the purity of his artistic work.
