Galeria Ramis Barquet is pleased to announce Don't Get Too Close, the gallery debut of artist Angela de Rosette.

As an artist, Angela de Rosette investigates the concept of layers of perception and the breakdown of information through her technique of disintegrating and translating an original image until it becomes beautifully tricky and ambiguous. Each one of her paintings is many times removed from the image that served as the original inspiration. Painted with the precision and cool hand of a topographical map, the artist layers subtle gradations of color that build upon each other to create a seemingly photographic image that upon closer inspection breaks down into complex layers and formal waves of color.

Don't Get Too Close is a series of self-portraits that exposes the anxieties, struggles and ambivalence of the universal human experience but also reveals ways in which to find a reconciliation between these states. This resolution is achieved because each painting offers the viewer diverse perspectives coupled with a sense of deep introspection. A bridge of color and movement apparent in each piece allows aggravation, laughter, despair, anger, serenity and hope to walk freely together while simultaneously revealing their innate differences. The idea of unity flows throughout the exhibition by the fact that the source of each of de Rosette's self-portraits stems from a different aspect of the human experience.

Angela de Rosette was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1979. Presently, she lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. This is her first solo exhibition with Galeria Ramis Barquet.
