Ramis Barquet is pleased to announce the latest exhibition by Belgian artist, Sergio De Beukelaer. The exhibition entitled Format follows in the same path that the artist created with the development of his Fat Canvases. Format is comprised of works divided into two elements which De Beukelaer calls tributes and ready-mades. The sharp techniques of these paintings are reminiscent of Ellsworth Kelly and also refer to Minimalism.

By using primary colors and basic forms, the artist pronounces a statement that leads to an objective idea of painting, sculpture, media and of art itself as a whole. A toy-like atmosphere underlines this statement but also allows the painter a certain freedom in painting. An example of the artist's use of playful devices is the back of one of his eponymous Fat Canvas, which is divided and based on the floor plan of his studio.

Gradually, it becomes clear that various factors in each painting play to support the idea of a tribute or a ready-made. A piece is inspired by Barnett Newman, but finished with influences by Roy Lichtenstein. Yet another piece is a transformed ready-made that plays on Robert Ryman. A white on white painting is structured like a wallpiece by Donald Judd, while a sculptural painting is a ready-made appropriated by Johannes Itten is presented in blindspot of the gallery.

The context of the exhibition is the pale blue color theme that is offset by white walls. The composition of this exhibition is meant to embody the tension and scale used by Piet Mondrian while the last room of the gallery is meant to evoke the sacred devotion of Baroque art
