Palimpsest
March 1, 2006- March 30, 2006
Reception: March 1, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
138 W 17th St
A selection of photographs and foto-projections from a large group of works commissioned by the City of Parma, Italy. Also featuring a model for a large-scale installation based on the series.
“Nancy Goldring observes, collects, and then re-enacts the entropic process in elaborate foto-projections of subtlety and beauty. It is not nostalgia that drives these works, but historical imagination – a continually renewed recognition of the accumulation of meaning in made things. And this cultural accumulation can only be rendered and made visible in relation; that is, through the palimpsest.”
-David Levi-Strauss
