Eric Zener’s recent paintings will be exhibited at
Gallery Henoch from April 17th – May 10th, 2008. A reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, April 19th from 6-8pm.
In his newest work, Zener continues to use the natural world as a metaphor for dramatic moments of personal decision and change. His waterscapes provide rich backdrops for his human figures, whose contemplative moods are reflected by the glimmering surface of the water. Suspended between moments of immersion and surfacing, his swimmers capture the essence of the individual’s quest for meaning.
“Most of my work is an observation of the human condition. Orphaned from the sanctuary of childhood we are faced with life’s challenges and the consequences of our choices. I use our relationship with water, nature and each other as a metaphor for personal transformation, refuge and renewal. Free from the obligations of daily life, the quiet landscape of a body of water or a beckoning field provides both a literal and psychological place of discovery and confession.”
