555 W 25th St
Gallery Henoch will exhibit a selection of new paintings by
Olga Antonova from November 16 – December 9, 2006. A reception for the artist will be held on Thursday, November 16 from 6 – 8 pm.
Russian-born
Olga Antonova selects her subjects from the antique markets of Boston, Massachusetts and Strasbourg, France. Her lush palette and painterly attention to brushwork draw our attention to the character and elegant shapes of these silver and porcelain cups, teapots, and other such objects. There are multiple elements to stimulate one’s eye: the pattern of a floral cloth ingeniously reflected in a silver cup, the very coloration of fabric and background, visual brushstrokes that translate into glints of metal, or an image of the artist reflected in the sheen of a metallic surface. Even where the colors are more muted, as in her stacked teacups, there is much for the eye to savor.
Antonova was trained at the Repin Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia. This will be her seventh exhibition at
Gallery Henoch.
