Good Night Sun exhibits landscape and cityscape paintings
by 35 artists at the
George Billis Gallery, located at
511 West 25th Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues,
from July 17th through August 18th, 2007. A reception
for the artists will be held
at the gallery on
Thursday, July 19th
from 6 - 8 pm.
Good Night Sun examines
our environment
once the sun has set,
whether it is due to the
evening approaching or
a foreboding storm. The
absence of sunlight
changes the way we see our everyday surroundings, altering the appearance of
skylines, familiar streets, and even the view from ones own window.
Artists paint scenes at dusk and night, in snow and rain; all very different ways of
depicting the disappearance of the sun, yet all working toward a common theme.
With artists represented from across the country, viewers experience a range of
locales. From the bright lights of Times Square to a suburban shopping center on
the West Coast we move with the artists to different locations and changing moods
with each painting.
The
George Billis Gallery marks its tenth year in the Chelsea Art District and
opened a second gallery in 2004 in the burgeoning gallery district of Culver City
in Los Angeles. For more information about the show, visit

through Saturday, 11am to 5pm.
